Practice Policies
Mobile Phone Use
Being mindful when using a mobile phone in a GP practice means remembering that it is a shared healthcare space where privacy, respect, and professionalism are important. Patients may be discussing personal medical information, and staff may be handling confidential records, so mobile phone use should never interfere with this.
Phones should be kept on silent to avoid disturbing others in waiting or consultation areas. Calls should be avoided unless absolutely necessary, and if one is needed, it should be taken outside or in a private area where possible.
Respecting other people’s privacy is essential. Taking photos, videos, or recording conversations in a GP practice should never happen without clear permission, as this could breach confidentiality and make others feel uncomfortable or unsafe. Screens should also not be used in ways that could expose patient information, such as viewing or sharing sensitive content in public areas.
Using a mobile phone responsibly helps maintain a calm, respectful environment and protects the dignity and confidentiality of everyone in the practice.
