to help reduce the risk of COVID-19 to our practice population and staff. Many thanks for your understanding during this time.

We are currently experiencing extremely high demand due to present circumstances. Therefore you may experience a delay when contacting reception, receiving your repeat prescription etc. We do apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

** Important Information Regarding Coronavirus Please Read **

We understand that with the announcement of a new lockdown there are going to be a number of patients concerned about the situation, especially those in very vulnerable risk groups and also those with children attending educational settings. The current government advice about high risk groups is available here:

Further publication is due Monday, and the Government will be writing to affected patients.

The GPs at the surgery have no additional information above and beyond this and are unable to help with requests for sick notes or other letters in such circumstances.

For people concerned about children attending educational settings; we understand and sympathise with the concerns around children attending school at this time, especially if a household has extremely vulnerable members. As a practice we are very sorry, but decisions about children attending school are not ours to make.  It's not something that we can help with.  We would suggest a discussion between the people involved and the school to decide on the best course of action.

** Important Information Regarding the NHS COVID-19 Vaccination Programme  Please Read **

Please do not call or turn up at the surgery or the local hospital, to enquire about COVID vaccinations.

We know that patients and all health and care staff are eager to find out when they will receive their COVID vaccination.  Please be assured that we will contact you directly, when it is your turn to book your vaccination and we will answer all your questions at your appointment.

The NHS is prioritising vaccinating those people who experts have agreed will benefit from it the most and we are systematically working through all eligible groups according to the national priorities.

Health and care teams across Somerset are working exceptionally hard to roll out our local vaccination programme in Somerset in line with the JCVI’s prioritisation and we are continuing to vaccinate people aged 80 and over, care home residents and staff, as well as widening out the offer to frontline health and social care staff.

Please continue to attend any vaccination appointments as planned. If there are any changes we will contact you direct – please do not call the surgery. We will be able to answer all your questions when you come for your appointment.

Additional information

We welcome the announcement that the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine has been authorised by the MHRA for use in the UK. The Joint Committee on Vaccines and Immunisation (JCVI) has said that both the Pfizer/BioNTech and the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine ‘give very high protection against severe disease’ and both have good safety records.

Updated guidance from MHRA, JCVI and the UK Chief Medical Officers has also been published to advise increasing the spacing of second vaccine doses for both the new Oxford/ AstraZeneca vaccine and the current Pfizer BioNTech vaccine. This decision will allow us to get the maximum benefit for the most people in the shortest possible time and will help save lives.
