Types of Appointment

General Appointments:

We aim to meet the needs of all our patients and therefore have a variety of appointment slots in order to accommodate as many patients' needs as possible.

Appointments can be made in person or by telephoning the Surgery during normal opening hours on: 01278 720 000. Monday is our busiest day and we would be grateful if you could avoid telephoning before 11.30am on a Monday morning unless your call is urgent. Calls can be answered twice as quickly during the rest of the week.

We would be grateful if you would ask the receptionist to book a double appointment slot when making your first appointment as a new patient, as the first consultation will take longer than usual.

Types of Appointments Offered:

Morning Surgeries: Most of the morning surgeries start at 08.30 am and run until 11.30 am. The GPs then go out on visits.
Afternoon Surgeries:The majority of our afternoon surgeries begin at 2.30pm.
Duty Team Surgery:We previously offered a late morning surgery (Residency) and afternoon surgery known as a ‘Sit & Wait’ or Same Day Clinic. These surgeries have now been merged and redesigned in order to provide a more beneficial service for our patients. If you require an urgent appointment with a GP or Nurse Specialist and it needs to be dealt with sooner than the next routine appointment, you will be asked for a brief description of your problem by the receptionist and a telephone number that you can be contacted on between given times. A Duty Team clinician will call you back during the prearranged time slot and agree the next course of action – this may be an appointment later in the day with a GP or a Nurse Specialist, you may be offered an appointment for a blood test followed by an appointment with a GP a few days later when the results have returned, or the matter may be sorted over the phone without the need to see a clinician. The aim of the Duty Team Surgery is to ensure patients are seen by the most appropriate clinician or offered the most appropriate form of action for the individual patient and their condition.

Nurse Practitioner & Specialist Nurse appointments:

Are offered every day for minor illnesses and chronic disease management. We have highly trained staff who are experienced in many conditions and it is sometimes more appropriate for you to be seen by them rather than by a GP, so the Reception team will ask you for brief details of your condition when you request an appointment. Please do not be offended by this as all we are aiming to do is allocate the most appropriate healthcare professional to see you.

If you would like a chaperone, please ask at the time of booking your appointment and not wait to ask for one when you have arrived. It is easier to arrange one in advance than on the day.

Cancelling Your Appointment

Approximately 300 appointments a month are wasted by patients failing to attend. PLEASE inform us as soon as possible if you do not need or are unable to keep your appointment so that we can offer it to someone else. You can cancel your appointment by telephone (dedicated cancellation line 01278 720015), email, in person or via our website.

Please do not be a "DNA" (Did Not Attend)!
